If you live in a Victorian, Edwardian or pre-war Kent property, you almost certainly have loft either side of a chimney breast. And you almost certainly know the frustration — the recesses are too narrow for a freestanding wardrobe, too deep for open shelves, and too awkward for anything off the shelf to fit properly.
This is one of the projects we enjoy most. We’ve said it: the more awkward the area, the better the challenge. Loft wardrobes are where truly bespoke manufacturing makes the biggest difference — and where competitors who rely on pre-made, standard-sized components simply cannot follow.
Loft look simple but they are almost never symmetrical. The left recess is usually a different width from the right. The walls lean inward or outward. The chimney breast is rarely perfectly central. The ceiling height changes across the room. And the walls themselves are rarely flat — especially in older Kent properties where the plaster has moved over a century or more.
A company working with pre-made standard sizes has two options: leave gaps, or fill them with unnecessarily oversized filler panels. Neither looks right. Neither feels right.
We do something different. We measure every surface of every loft precisely, then manufacture each panel to fit those exact dimensions. Left side different from right? No problem — we build each side individually. Walls not plumb? We scribe the panels to follow the exact profile. The result is a wardrobe that looks like it was built with the house.
Doors can be sliding or hinged, in any of our 45+ styles. Hinged doors with traditional moulded panels sit beautifully in period properties, while mirror or glass sliding doors bring a contemporary feel.
the most popular option. Wardrobes fill the full height of the loft, with a bridging section over the chimney breast to connect them and create a complete wall of storage.
a dressing table across the chimney breast between the two wardrobes, with a mirror above. A classic layout that works beautifully in period bedrooms.
wardrobes in the loft with open shelves or display niches above or across the chimney breast.
a recessed TV unit across the chimney breast with wardrobes either side. Popular in master bedrooms where you want to keep the room clean and uncluttered.

Yes. We manufacture each side individually to its exact dimensions, but we match the door styles, handles and finishes so they look symmetrical. The eye reads them as matching even when the widths are slightly different.
Yes, this is one of the most popular options. It connects the two alcove wardrobes across the top of the chimney breast, creating a complete wall of storage. We can also build a shelf, display niche, or TV recess into the bridging section.
No. We build around it. The chimney breast stays exactly as it is, we simply fill the alcoves either side and optionally bridge across the top.
We can work around existing coving and period features, or scribe up to them. We discuss this during the design visit so you know exactly how the wardrobe will sit against your room’s existing character.
